Adding an alternate domain name to the site - basic method
An alternate domain name (domain alias) is an independent domain (Top-Level Domain (TLD)) or a subdomain within the namespace that points to an existing web site. What differentiates an alternate domain name from a regular domain is:
- You cannot create an independent site for the alternate name, but it can point to an existing site or mail domain. This mapping cannot direct to a subdomain.
- An instant alias is not added to the alternate name.
To add a new alternate domain name, click the Add Domain button in the domain list and select the link: Assign to existing Web Site:
You can choose from existing web sites and mail domains. After selection, click Add Domain.
Adding an alternate domain name to the site - redirect method
Sometimes you need a site to handle additional domains. In such a case, for example due to search engine algorithms, it is recommended to create a site that captures requests and redirects them to the proper address.
